An African bishop was the VIP guest at a Burnham-On-Sea church on Easter Sunday (April 12th).
Bishop Andrew Proud was in town during a three month visit to the UK and he read the sermon during Sunday’s service at St Andrew’s Church.
Andrew is the Bishop of the Horn of Africa – giving him leadership of the Anglican Church covering Ethiopia, Eritrea, Djibouti, Somaliland and Somalia.
“One of my key aims during my UK visit is to raise awareness of the terrible hunger problems being suffered by 16 million people in the horn of Africa – they need urgent help,” he told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“Over the next few months I am visiting many churches across the UK to raise support and awareness. It was really good to be a part of the Easter service in Burnham – you have a very warm community here.”
Bishop Andrew is staying with long-time friend and St Andrew’s Church vicar Rev Graham Witts during his visit. Sunday’s service also included a christening.
