Town centre road stays shut after motorist holds up resurfacing

-

A busy road in the centre of Burnham-On-Sea was partially closed for a second day on Monday (January 25th) after resurfacing work was held up by a motorist who ignored warning signs and parked their vehicle along the street.

Businesses along Adam Street suffered a second day of disruption due to the roadworks extending into a second day.

On Friday, a motorist left a Ford Focus parked in the road – meaning the workmen had to lay fresh tarmac around the space where it was parked, as pictured above.

Somerset County Council spokesman Jan Hookings told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Notices advising people about the work were put up along the road prior to the work starting, but for reasons unknown a car was left in the road and this meant the work could not be completed.”

“The contractors made every effort to find the motorist and the police were also called in but they could not help in moving it.”

“As a result, the work was completed on Monday instead of Friday, but there was no extra cost on the taxpayer. The contractor picked up the cost of the additional time.”
