An acoustic music night in Burnham-On-Sea raised hundreds of pounds for a town charity on Saturday (May 27th).

The Victoria Hotel was packed with supporters of ‘In Charley’s Memory’ at the start of a series of fundraising events by the new owners.

The hotel has even introduced a new beer, called Charley’s Choice, to raise further funds.

Landlord Shaun McCann told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We’re pleased to have adopted this local charity and will be running a lot of events to help them over the coming year.”

“Every pint sold of Charley’s Choice will raise 10p for the charity and we also have a fun run planned, a tug of war, and a talent contest.”

Charley’s mother, Jo, thanked the hotel: “We are so grateful for the support of the Victoria – these events will help raise awareness about the work we do around mental health and also raise funds at the same time.”

Saturday’s event featured music from The Enchanting Lady Garden (pictured top), The Quintessential Tim Dean, Kev Boley and Friends, and Burnham’s own Nathaniel Topping. A final tally for how much was raised will be known later in the week.

In Charley’s Memory was set up after Charley took his own life, aged 18, in September 2014. The charity now supports and helps hundreds of young people affected by mental health.
