These were the dramatic scenes on Wednesday afternoon (February 21st) when a young motorist heading to Burnham-On-Sea lost control of his vehicle, overturned and ploughed into a fence.
While the Peugeot 306 was badly damaged, incredibly the 19-year-old driver inside escaped with just minor bumps and scratches.
The crash, which occurred at 4.15pm at Highbridge’s M5 junction 23, led to long delays for traffic travelling between Bridgwater and Burnham.
The driver, Lance Pople, (pictured below) told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I was travelling along the dual carriageway on my way to Burnham to buy my girlfriend a gift when the vehicle just locked up.”
“I went straight into a lamp post before overturning and ended up next to a fence.”
“It was scary – I was lucky to escape with just a few scrapes on my arms. It could have been a lot worse.”
Police are still investigating the accident.
Earlier in the day, a woman suffered shock when two cars were involved in an accident at Brent Road, Berrow. Police were called at 8.35am after reports of a collision that saw one car end up in a ditch besides the road.
