Police target anti-social drivers in Burnham-On-Sea town centre

-

Anti-social drivers have quite literally been in the firing line of Burnham-On-Sea police this week.

After several complaints about speeding vehicles from residents living in Abingdon Street, officers have been out in the force using speed guns, as pictured here.

Sgt Ian Kennett told Burnham-On-Sea.com on Tuesday: “This sort of behaviour has a negative impact on the quality of life of local residents and I am determined to take positive action against offenders.”

“Anti-social driving will not be tolerated in the Burnham-On-Sea area. I am confident that the measures that we will be taking have the support of our partners and the community, and will make real improvements for local residents, businesses and visitors.”

“I believe that some drivers are using Abingdon Street as part of a circuit from Morrison’s car park, along Oxford Street and back through the town. This will be one of our main points of focus for enforcement.”

“Since last weekend the police have seized two cars as part of operation Go Slow. On Friday night I witnessed a silver Peugeot 206 being driven erratically with the engine revving highly, and wheels spinning at Cassis Close. A silver Citroen ZX was also seized on Monday night on The Esplanade. In addition, an off road motorcycle was seized last week after complaints that it was being ridden on public footpaths around Apex Park.”

“If residents of Burnham Sea would like the antisocial speeding issue to be a priority for the community, they are asked to give their vote at the PACT meeting at the Old Courthouse in Jaycroft Road at 7.30pm on Thursday 22nd October.”

“If they are unable to attend, but would like to have their vote counted, please contact a member of their Neighbourhood Beat Team, drop a note into the letterbox at Burnham-on-Sea Police station.”
