The man who was murdered in Burnham-On-Sea on Christmas Eve had been stabbed thirteen times, a post mortem investigation has revealed.

A police officer found the body of George Lawson, 20, lying on a bed in a flat in Abingdon Street shortly after 9am on Christmas Eve.

A post-mortem has since concluded that Mr Lawson, pictured, had suffered 13 stab wounds.

A nine-inch carving knife without a handle was found nearby by police.

Adam Lapthorne, 23, has been charged with murder and faced magistrates at Taunton Magistrates Court on Monday. He had a bandage covering a wound on his left arm.

Mr Lapthorne was remanded in custody and is due to appear before Exeter Crown Court on 11 January.

Several floral tributes were laid outside the Second Image tattoo shop in Abingdon Street, near the murder scene, on Tuesday.

And scores of tributes have been paid to George Lawson on the social networking website Facebook – as reported by Burnham-On-Sea.com here.

Police have also appealed to anyone who witnessed a man and woman walking towards the beach from the Abingdon Street area between 2am and 5am on Christmas Eve to come forward.
