Burnham-On-Sea’s police chief has confirmed that a cordon placed around this Highbridge home on Thursday afternoon (December 24th) was linked to Burnham’s Abingdon Street murder investigation.
Police swooped on a home in Kimber Close, Highbridge, as pictured here, and sealed off the front of the property with police tape while they gathered evidence.
It followed the earlier arrest of four people in connection with the discovery of a body in Burnham’s Abingdon Street.
We reported earlier today how a 23 year-old man and a 27 year-old woman had been arrested on suspicion of murder, while a 21 year-old woman and a 25 year-old man had also been arrested on suspicion of aiding an offender.
Inspector Roger Tolley told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Part of the investigation led us to Kimber Close in Highbridge. I can confirm this activity was connected with the Abingdon Street death.”
He added that the following the arrest of the four, police are not looking for anyone else at this time.
Inspector Tolley outlined how the discovery had been made: “Earlier this morning, police were called to 40 Abingdon Street where they found the body of a man.”
“Police had dealt with a separate incident earlier in the morning and this was followed by the discovery of the man’s body. Early indications were that the man had been murdered. The four people are being interviewed and the investigations are ongoing.”
He added: “This incident is believed to have involved a group of friends. They all knew each other. We are not sure of a motive at this stage.”
Inspector Tolley also apologised to Christmas shoppers and local residents for the disruption caused by the closure of Abingdon Street for almost 12 hours, as pictured above.
“I would apologise to people who were inconvenienced by disruption in the centre of Burnham, but hope that people understand the reason and the special circumstances we have been deling with.”
