Plans to introduce a new 40mph speed limit along the A38 between the Edithmead roundabout and East Brent have been unveiled this week in a bid to make the busy route safer.
Somerset County Council has this week published a Speed Limit Order proposal to introduce a 40mph limit for the stretch of road highlighted in red on the above map. It includes Brent Knoll’s Fox and Goose junction, which is a well-known accident blackspot.
Talking to Burnham-On-Sea.com, Brent Knoll county councillor Bob Filmer has welcomed the proposals this week.
He said: “I fully support these proposal – this stretch of road is fast moving and dangerous and I have long wanted to see a speed limit introduced here.”
“Reducing the speed limit to 40mph would make it much safer between the M5 roundabout and East Brent. It’s espocially needed around the Fox and Goose junction, where there have been many accidents.”
Cllr Filmer added: “I’ve discussed the proposals with the parish councils for Burnham Without, Brent Knoll and East Brent, and all are supportive.”
“I am hopeful that we will soon see this long-awaited speed restriction introduced.”
Local people wishing to submit feedback on the proposed Speed Limit Order should do so in writing to Somerset County Council, Traffic Management, B2 West, County Hall, Taunton, TA1 4DY, quoting reference No. KT25012019 no later than 21 days from 12th February, 2019.
