Major A38 safety project gets underway near Burnham-On-Sea

Major work to make a dangerous stretch of the A38 near Burnham-On-Sea safer is to begin this month, we can reveal.

A new speed limit, brand new traffic islands, a new anti-skid surface, and new road safety markings are to be introduced along the busy stretch of the A38 between Pople’s Bow and Edithmead (pictured above).

District councillor Bob Filmer told Burnham-On-Sea.com that the work is scheduled begin on October 10th and last for three weeks, during which time motorists should expect traffic hold-ups in the area.

“It is a safety scheme in ‘Burnham Without’ which the Parish Council and I have been pushing for,” said Cllr Filmer.

“The islands were deemed necessary by the police to reduce dangerous overtaking.”

He added that the work also includes new right turn lanes into Burnham Moor Lane (pictured) and nearby Edithmead Lane.
