A motorist has been arrested on suspicion of drink-driving following a crash in Highbridge on Sunday evening (August 26th).
Police, fire and ambulance crews were called to the A38 Bristol Road at around 5.15pm after the Ford car slammed into a street light and caused a power cut to hundreds of homes in the surrounding area.
Police said on Tuesday that a man in his 50s was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving and has since been released under investigation.
A Police spokesman said: “We were called to reports of a car in collision with an electric pylon at about 5.15pm on Sunday, leaving wires over the road. The driver was trapped in the car, which was damaged by the collision.”
The road remained closed until 3am on Monday morning while crews from Western Power Distribution made the scene safe.
