A38 re-opens in Highbridge after crash causes power cut in Burnham

-

The A38 was closed for several hours and homes across parts of Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge were briefly without electricity on Sunday evening (August 26th) following an accident.

The driver of a Ford vehicle lost control near the Bristol Bridge Inn, colliding with a tree and electricity pole, as pictured here.

One person was injured in the accident and was taken to hospital by ambulance, according to an eyewitness.

Emergency services had rushed to the scene soon after 5.15pm and Police closed the busy road in both directions, putting diversions in place.

Power supplies were cut just after 5.15pm in the area and a Western Power Distribution spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “370 customers were without power for safety purposes following a road traffic accident on the A38 affecting one of our poles.”

“Our staff were quickly on-site and we restored supplies within half an hour.”
