A female motorist was killed and a man is in a serious condition following a two-car accident near Burnham-On-Sea yesterday (Saturday, September 24th).
Two vehicles – a Mini and a Mazda – collided on the A38 outside Rooksbridge shortly after 1.30pm at the junction with Biddisham Lane.
The Dorset and Somerset air ambulance flew one person to Frenchay Hospital in Bristol while the police helicopter was also used to take a second person to hospital – but the woman was later pronounced dead.
Fire crews cut the roof off the Mini Cooper to free the woman.
The man was driving a Mazda 6 and was taken to the police helicopter on a spinal board.
Inspector Nick Hunt confirmed to Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Police were called to a two-vehicle accident at 1.37pm and sadly one lady has died and another person is in hospital. An extensive investigation is underway to establish what happened and we would urge any witnesses to contact us by dialling 101.”
