Police and ambulance crews from Burnham-On-Sea rushed to the scene at 1.25pm and found the man had suffered leg injuries, which were serious enough for him to be air-lifted to Frenchay Hospital in Bristol.
The collision occurred along a fast-moving stretch of the A38 and involved a Ford Fiesta.
“A man was taken to hospital via an air ambulance following a road traffic accident between a car and a motorbike,” police spokeswoman Claire Stanley told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
The road was closed for several hours, leading to a build-up of long queues of traffic in both directions.
Police appealed for witnesses to the collision to contact them on 0845 456 7000.
