Students at Highbridge’s King Alfred School were celebrating another record set of A-Level results on Thursday (August 15th).
At A2 level, Year 13 students have achieved an impressive 100% A*-E pass rate and an average points score that exceeds the previous record score set last year.
Headteacher Andy Owen told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We are delighted with these brilliant results which reflect the commitment of students, staff and parents.”
“The sixth form has been a major area of school improvement and these results are testament to the hard word and efforts of all involved.”
He went on to comment on the excellent results achieved in maths, regarded as being among one of the most difficult subjects at A-Level, Sociology and Art.
Headline figures show that the school has broken all previous Post 16 measures.
Within the record-breaking results, there were some outstanding individual achievements.
Stand-out performances included William Jones (A*, A*, Distinction*) who is going on to study at maths at Exeter University.
Alivia Redman (A*, A, B) was also celebrating and will be studying bio-chemistry at Sheffield University.
Others were Ellen Herrington (A*, A, C) and is going to Cardiff University to study psychology and education.
Hannah Smith (A, A, B) is going on to Bath University to study history and education.
Other noteworthy results were achieved by Dominic Young, Edan Young and Chloe Dixon. Special mention also goes to Gemma Doyle, Stephen Lilley and Kieran Skuse who exceeded their target grades, and Courtney Cawley and Andrew Francis who achieved A* in art.
In addition, congratulations go to the PE and ICT departments who achieved four distinction * and eleven distinctions between them.
One of the most significant achievements is that every student who applied to university has been offered a place.
Head of sixth form Jonathan Gaskell said: “We are delighted that all of young people have gained access to their preferred course and university of choice.”
“It is fantastic that their hard work has been rewarded and we wish them every success in what will be very bright futures.”
