Students at Highbridge’s King Alfred School are celebrating another record set of A-Level results this week.
The school’s Year 13 pupils achieved an impressive 100% A*-E pass rate for a second year running, it was anounced on Thursday (August 14th).
Headteacher Andy Owen told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We are delighted with these brilliant results which reflect the fantastic commitment of students, staff and parents. The sixth form has been a major area of school improvement and these results are testament to the hard work and efforts of all involved.”
“Perhaps the most encouraging aspect of the results is that students across the full range of abilities have exceeded their targets with our most able students achieving A*s and Distinction* and our 100% pass rate i.e. every student achieving a grade in every subject.”
He went on to highlight the excellent results achieved in Maths (3 A*s), ICT (6 Distinction*s) and Sport Studies (6 Distinction*s).
“Our outstanding results and our successes at the top end, which go against the national trend, is due to the exceptional work ethic of our students supported by committed staff.”
“For example, two of our Maths students each completed over 130 and 100 past papers respectively with every paper being marked, annotated with feedback and returned within 24 hours by the Head of Maths – outstanding commitment.”
Within these record breaking results there were some outstanding individual achievements with the stand-out performance being Bethan Marshall, pictured right, who achieved a stunning three A*s and will now take up her place at Gonville and Caius College at Cambridge University to read Natural Sciences.
In addition, Ashley Benton achieved A*/A/A and will read Physics at UCL, another fantastic achievement.
Other outstanding performances included Harriet Hansen A*/A/B (Philosophy at Bristol University); Emily Furneaux A*/B/B (Marine Biology at Plymouth University); Matt Dickinson Dis*/Dis*/B (Sports Science at St Mary’s, Twickenham); Charlie Huggins Dis*/Dis*/C (Gap Year); Alima Begum A/B/B (Midwifery at Anglia Ruskin University).
One of the most significant achievements is that every student who applied to university has been offered a place.
Head of sixth form Jonathan Gaskell added: “We are delighted that all of our young people have gained access to their preferred course and University of choice. It is fantastic that their hard work has been rewarded and we wish them every success in what will be very bright futures.”
