80mph police chase through Burnham-On-Sea ends with two arrests

-

A dramatic 80mph police chase through Burnham-On-Sea ended at the town’s Holiday Village on Thursday afternoon (June 14th) with two men being arrested.

A police helicopter and several police cars were deployed in the pursuit of a stolen 4×4 through the town at lunchtime.

The incident began at 11.55am when the four wheel-drive Honda vehicle failed to stop at the request of police officers in Love Lane.

The chase then headed towards the seafront and onto Marine Drive – where police say the stolen vehicle reached speeds of up to 80mph.

Police followed the car into Burnham Holiday Village, where the thieves then fled from the vehicle and attempted to run away.

Police spokesman Ian Drury told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The police helicopter was called in to help officers with the search and at around 12.45pm two people were arrested and taken into custody. One was a man in his 20s who was believed to be the driver.”

He added that the vehicle had been stolen from outside the Avon and Somerset police area and that it was not damaged during the chase.
