£7,000 project to upgrade Burnham-On-Sea BMX Club’s track is completed

-

A £7,000 project to upgrade the track Burnham-On-Sea BMX Club track at the town’s Apex Park has been completed this month.

The long-running club has upgraded its track, making it more accessible and safer, while also refurbishing its facilities.

Burnham and Highbridge Town Council and Sedgemoor District Council have provided grant funding to help the club improve the amenities and equipment.

Talking to Burnham-On-Sea.com, the club’s Sue Cornelius said: “We have introduced upgraded new jumps, resurfaced several parts of the track, and repositioned several jumps to make it safer for riders. We have also made some changes to prevent flooding.”

“We received funding from our local councils towards the project, which also includes introducing new bikes and more protective equipment.”

“The reaction has been very positive – we have already attracted several new riders and even seen some former riders coming back to try it out, with great comments. They say the track flows a lot better while being more challenging and faster too.”

“There is now a hope that we will be in a better position to hold a national competition here in Burnham in the future.”

“The club has more than 40 members, aged from four to around 60, and we hope the new facilities will encourage more local people to join us.”
