£1,500 of damage to speedboat after sea water swamps it

A speedboat suffered more than £1,500 of damage on Sunday evening (August 7th) after being swamped with sea water on Burnham jetty.

The crew struggle to keep the boat afloat in the heavy wavesThe craft was battered by waves and had several holes punched in its hull after its crew got into difficulty pulling it onto a trailer.

Burnham-On-Sea Police and Coastguard officers were called to the scene at 8.20pm and the Coastguard team managed to tow the craft to the safety of the upper slipway a few minutes later.

The crew of three from Weston-super-Mare – Andrew Morris (41), Lee Morris (15), and Tom Gibson (15) – were all unurt, but their ego may have been bruised. “This was the first time we’d sailed in Burnham. It’s certainly the last,” said Lee.

The incident occurred on Burnham Coastguard’s busiest day of the year so far. They also dealt with a yacht aground in the River Parrett and a jet ski adrift at Brean Down earlier in the day.
