Proposals to introduce 400 new homes in Burnham-On-Sea over the next two decades have been approved by town councillors this week.
They approved the plans contained within Sedgemoor District Council’s ‘Local Development Framework Core Strategy’, subject to further discussions.
The council wants a detailed look at where the planned new properties will be located within the Burnham and Highbridge area.
The strategy also proposes creating 1,000 new jobs in the Burnham area over the next 20 years and suggests that up to 1,300 new homes may be needed in Burnham by the year 2030 if current growth continues.
“The proposals are good news for Burnham, but we need to make sure the locations of the new developments are carefully chosen,” Cllr Neville Jones told Burnham-On-Sea.com. “This will determine the future shape of our town.”
An updated version of the Local Development Framework for the Burnham area is due to be published this summer by Sedgemoor District Council.
The town council stressed it is keen for the new properties to be homes, not flats, when it discussed the plans at this week’s full council meeting.
