£400 boost for Highbridge and Burnham Foodbank from local group

-

Burnham-On-Sea’s Moose International Lodge has donated a timely financial boost to Highbridge and Burnham-On-Sea Foodbank this week.

Members of the lodge have handed £400 of support to the Foodbank at a time when it is handling record numbers of requests for help from struggling local people during the Coronavirus pandemic.

Burnham-On-Sea Moose Ladies’ Circle have contributed £150. Likewise, Pete Nicholson has handed over two cheques from the men, one for £150 from Burnham on Sea Lodge 123 and a second of £100 on behalf of Moose Legion 8.

Burnham Moose members raise a large amount of money every year for various local charities and they say they are only too glad to help the Foodbank in this extraordinary time.

The lodge’s Pete Nicholson said: “We appreciate that £400 is only a small amount of what the Foodbank needs but we hope it will help and we appreciate all the hard work and dedication of the volunteers.”

Nick Bashford from the food bank told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Our Foodbank has never been busier and we can only continue to provide food for local people in financial crisis with the support of our local community.  We are very grateful for this wonderful donation from members of the local Moose organisation.”

Pete added: “Demand has doubled at the Foodbank and I was shown around. They have a fantastic system set up in the Methodist Church building in Burnham, making the most of the space whilst the church is closed for normal functions.”

“One of their biggest problems at this time is getting the right products to make up the food bags. I was asked to pass on their thanks to Moose for our support.”

Moose Publicity officer Mike Lang added: “Our organisation is presently on lockdown due to the Covid-19 virus, but the welfare support of our vulnerable members continues online, with due regard to the governmental regulations and recommendations.”
