Burnham-On-Sea angling group recalls year of bumper catches

-

Anglers from a Burnham-On-Sea fishing club this week recalled some of the year’s biggest catches – and the ‘ones that got away’ – when they met for their annual presentation night.

Members of the 3Bs Sea Angling Association – which covers Burnham, Berrow and Brean (the 3Bs) – met at the Ritz Social Club in Victoria Street.

The fishing exploits of the group were recounted before 40 cups and awards were handed out to members by Richard Pettitt (pictured below), the club’s Fish Recorder and Cup Custodian, and Mike Patten, Club Chairman.

Group spokesman John Rowlands told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “This year has been an exceptional year for the club, with some of its members representing their country. Ian McLean has retained his position within the England Boat squad for a fourth year in succession and Mike Patten is keen to make a mark this year.”

“Helen Verrall fishes for the Ladies England Squad in the European Federation of Sea Anglers. Dave Cogger is the National Fire Brigade Boat and Shore Champion and Tony Hiscock is individual winner of the Ministry Of Defence boat championship. We also have winners of the regional NFSA boat series held in Minehead, the winner of the NFSA regional shore championship and the National Civil Service boat champion.”

Mention was also made of Rommie Mennings, a junior club member, who for the second year running took home a big haul of cups.

The club will soon embark on another series of monthly boat trips to Boscastle, as it has done for the last few years.

The club meets on the third Monday in the month at The Ritz Social Club on Victoria Street in Burnham. New members are always welcome. For further detail contact John Rowlands on 01278 458599 or visit the club’s website here.
