Coastguards help injured walker at Brean Down

Coastguards were called to Brean Down on Saturday afternoon, August 27th, after a walker tripped and suffered a suspected broken ankle.

The 32-year-old lady from Birmingham was walking near the highest point on the Down when she lost her footing at around 4pm.

As an ambulance was not able to reach the casualty due to the rough terrain leading up to the trig point, Coastguards from Burnham-On-Sea were drafted in to transport her in their truck.

Once at the bottom of the Down, the casualty was moved by stretcher onto a waiting ambulance near the Brean Down Bird Garden and Cafe – as the photo above shows.

A Coastguard spokesman said: “She was in a lot of pain but we managed to transport her safely down, where paramedics were waiting to treat her.”
