Controversial new Burnham-On-Sea wind farm plans unveiled

Controversial plans for a new wind farm in Burnham-On-Sea have been unveiled today.

A proposed 300ft wind turbine could be sited between Quantock Court and the Yacht Club – as shown in this special photo montage – and two others are earmarked for the dunes near the town’s low lighthouse and next to Marine Drive, as pictured below.

According to Norwegian energy company AF1, which is behind the controversial scheme, it wants to find scores of coastal wind farm sites around the UK which are ideal for capturing the power of prevailing westerly winds.

Spokesman Paril Olof said: “We’ve studied the plans of several other local wind farm schemes and believe our proposed locations in Burnham, which are right next to the sea, are better for capturing the wind energy coming down the Bristol Channel.”

The proposal is likely to stir up fresh debate about wind energy in coming days.
