Cider drinkers from across the Burnham-On-Sea area will be celebrating a good crop of apples during an annual wassailing event tonight (Saturday, January 19th).
Brent Knoll’s Westcroft Farm will be marking the centuries-old tradition of wassailing with a flaming torch-lit procession, waking the good spirits with cider and songs, followed by a ceremony to scare the evil spirits with shotguns and gongs.
There will be music and entertainment from 7pm from Six Machine (pictured), Daft Folk, Belly Dancers, The Mummers and Nat Topping.
Tickets are on sale now, priced at £11 per person, with children under 14 free. Entrance is by programme only to include a glass of mulled cider, bread and cheese. There will also be a pig roast, refreshments, raffle and more.
Programmes are available by calling 01278 760762 or in advance from Westcroft Farm or Brent Knoll Village Shop. The wassail supports the ‘Westcroft Room’ at Brent Knoll Village School and Brent Knoll Parish Hall.
