Members of Burnham’s Pantomime Society and Brean’s Coastline Players are celebrating this week after scooping several top accolades at an annual awards night for pantomime groups across the region.
The two local groups attended the annual Somerset Fellowship of Drama Cinderella Trophy Awards in Yeovil on Saturday.
The Coastline Players won the award for the Best Village Pantomime in Somerset after its performance of ‘Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs’ in Brean in February, featured here. Producer Anne Allen and choreographer Clare Hunter are pictured above holding The Spotlight Shield.
The Players’ Phil Crossland told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We are delighted to have won this award. We were up against 26 other panto groups from across the county, so it is quite an achievement to win and we have now come first seven times in the past 12 years!”
The Outstanding Performance of the Year went to the group’s Clare Hunter, who was also named Best Female Villain. And the Solo Musician of the Year award went to the Players’ Brian Goodwin while the Young Principal Boy of the Year was won by Katrina Doyle.
There was also plenty to cheer about for members of Burnham District Pantomime Society, who won the Roger Cuff Award for Best Comic Scene after its kitchen scene attracted acclaim.
And the award for the best Principal Boy of the Year went to Lisa Davis, who played Idle Jack (pictured here on the left).
Mo Cooper, Chair of Burnham District Pantomime Society, said: “We had a great evening with 12 nominations in all, which was even better than last year.”
“We were delighted to pick up the award for the best comic scene and it was great that Lisa’s super performance won the Principal Boy of the Year award.”
