Crowds see ‘Britain’s most festive street’ light up for Xmas in Burnham

-

A Burnham-On-Sea cul-de-sac whose stunning display of over 100,000 twinkling Christmas lights has been dubbed ‘Britain’s most festive street’ by the national press lit up for the start of the festive season on Tuesday (December 1st).

The Trinity Close homes switched on their illuminations at 7pm, with a line-up of festive carols and music from Burnham’s Curtain Call School Of Performing Arts.

The residents have decorated their homes top to bottom with lights, in addition to roofs, lawns and garden fences, and the display will be lit each night from 4.30pm until 10pm until January 5th.

The lights raised over £10,000 for charity last year and this year’s collection will benefit PETAL: The Christine Woodberry Memorial Trust and the Friends of Burnham Hospital.

Residents Nick and Hazel Gardner oversee the display and Nick told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It’s a superb display this year – we have around 10,000 lights with several new ones among them.”

“Several of the residents have installed extra lights this year – it’s great to see the display continuing to grow each year.”

The traditional displays have raised a huge total of more than £60,000 since the charity collections began nine years ago.

Visitors are being invited to make a donation in a number of collection boxes located around the homes in Trinity Close.

This year’s display includes moving reindeer, illuminated trees and lanterns, and visitors can also see if they can find a toy train display.

Visitors are being asked to be courteous to residents by parking sensibly and not blocking drives. The residents are working with Burnham Police and the Town Council to try and reduce congestion.
