A rare sighting of a seal on Stert Island caused a stir among seafront walkers in Burnham-On-Sea on Thursday (September 9th).
Telescope user Greg Dye-Hodge Beardsley spotted the mammal on the eastern side of the island, as pictured here.
Greg told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “He seemed to be enjoying the warm weather by playing on a bank of sand next to the water. He was there for over five hours, sleeping on the beach, playing and later fishing.”
“As water from the incoming tide reached him, he dived into the sea and swam off out into the estuary towards Wales.”
“It was a wonderful sight and over 50 walkers on the seafront looked through my telescope to see the animal during the afternoon.”
Earlier this month, a Highbridge resident spotted a baby seal clambering up a slipway next to the River Brue in Highbridge.
