Brrrr! Burnham-On-Sea shivers in snow and ice on first day of Spring

-

Burnham-On-Sea shivered in a wintry chill on Wednesday, March 1st, as snow and sub-zero temperatures swept in on a day that’s known by some as the start of Spring.

For about an hour at lunchtime, the seafront was white with snow as a heavy downfall took motorists and walkers by surprise.

Untreated roads and pavements were covered, but by the middle of the afternoon all of the snow had melted – much to the disappointment of children leaving local schools.

Further light downfalls of snow fell in the town on Wednesday afternoon and evening.

Earlier, temperatures had sunk to -3 degrees Centigrade overnight and with an icy northerly breeze, the wind chill had made it feel even cooler.

Wednesday’s snow led to a surge of people visiting Burnham-On-Sea.com’s live seafront Webcam as large numbers logged on during the day to check the latest weather conditions.

But the conditions were a far cry from the snow that fell in the town last December. Then, Burnham was left under several centimetres for several hours.
