New photos showing what the proposed wind farm on the outskirts of Burnham-On-Sea will look like have been released this week by the pressure group fighting the scheme.
The ‘kNOll to Wind Farm’ Action Group issued the photo montages to give an impression of how the five huge wind turbines will look if they were built next to Brent Knoll.
The group has been buoyed up by two news items in recent days which, it claims, strengthen its argument.
Spokesman Andrew Manning said: “It is noted that Sedgemoor District Council has, in the last few days, refused an application for an 80ft mobile telephone mast with the explanation that ‘The site is on low, flat land in the countryside where the mast would be prominent and obtrusive in the landscape especially when viewed from the M5 motorway.’
“We are calling for consistency from the council when considering any application for a wind farm here. If an 80ft telephone mast at Isleport Business Park would be prominent and obtrusive as viewed from the M5, surely turbines of over 300ft, at a similar distance from the motorway built on low, flat countryside would be greatly more prominent and obtrusive?”
Meanwhile, ‘kNOll to Wind Farm’ said it was also pleased to hear that the Trade and Industry Secretary had refused an application for several wind turbines at Whinash in Cumbria. It claims this was due to “the impact on the environment.”
Ecotricity – the company behind the wind farm scheme – is expected to submit its planning application over the next few days.
