Bird strike causes brief power cut to 9,700 homes in Burnham

-

Thousands of homes across Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge were briefly without electricity on Thursday afternoon (September 16th) after a bird struck power lines.

Western Power Distribution, which oversees the supply in our area, told Burnham-On-Sea.com that the brief interruption, lasting just a few seconds, affected residents in both towns at around 1.30pm.

“A total of 9,700 homes were without power after a fault on the line between Watchfield and Burnham,” Western Power Distribution spokeswoman Tracey Carr told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

She added: “Our engineers believe a bird strike is the most likely cause.”
