Sedgemoor District Council will this week publish its blueprint for the Burnham-On-Sea area for the next 16 years – and is inviting public feedback on the proposals.
The Submission Core Strategy is a key component of the Local Development Framework that sets out the policies which will guide development in our area up until 2026.
From Tuesday (September 28th), residents can have their say about the plans for an eight week period.
The strategy outline plans to deliver town centre improvements, additional brownfield growth, and enhanced employment opportunities for Burnham and Highbridge.
It is also expected to propose that at least 9,100 new jobs and 10,100 new homes should be provided mainly in Bridgwater, Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge.
The strategy also sets ambitious targets for affordable homes, supports energy efficiency and high quality sustainable design, and is supported by a detailed infrastructure delivery plan.
The Draft Core Strategy will be available for comment from 28th September until 22nd November. Full details of how to comment can be found on the Council’s web site at www.sedgemoor.gov.uk/ldf.

Boosting our economy to provide more jobs, providing good quality housing so that everyone has a decent place to live and coping with the challenges of climate change and flooding are just some of our priorities over the next two decades. The Core Strategy is one of the key tools that the Council can use to achieve these aims and publication of the draft core Strategy is a significant step forward.”
Copies of the document can be viewed in all public libraries in the district and at Sedgemoor’s office in Kings Square, Bridgwater.
