A holidaymaker’s complaints about the standard of his accommodation at Pontin’s holiday park in Brean gained nationwide coverage on BBC1’s Watchdog programme this week.
Scott Lee contacted the show to explain how he had upgraded to a ‘club room’ and got a room with “cracked walls, exposed electrical wiring, heaters hanging off the wall, and a filthy cooking grill.”
The TV show broadcast several of Scott’s photos, pictured here, to illustrate the problems he faced at the Brean holiday park.
Pontin’s said it actively encourages guests to talk to its staff if they have any problems.
Scott told the BBC that he had done that, but was told the camp was full when he asked to move room.
However, the park did manage to find him alternative accommodation on the second night of his stay.
Pontin’s owner Ocean Parcs said last year that it would be “completely refurbishing” the park in Brean.
The firm says its Brean Sands site – which was the company’s first UK holiday park – is being completely modernised.
Clarke Osborne, the firm’s property director, said: “We have been working on our next generation of holiday centres for over nine months and I think that the results of this careful design strategy will be very well received by both our extensive and loyal customer base and new customers that are joining us each year.”
Ian Smith, chief executive of Ocean Parcs, added: “We are tremendously excited about the investment planned for the development of our holiday centres and the employment and tourism revenue that will be generated.”
