Burnham-On-Sea’s MP has welcomed the launch of a smartphone and tablet app by Ofcom that helps residents find out the quality of their wireless internet signal, as well as offering practical steps to get the best from their connection.
James Heappey said this week: “This is a positive step allowing constituents the ability to know what level of service they are receiving in comparison to what they are actually paying for.”
“Additionally, the troubleshooting steps and advice that it offers give people the chance to make immediate changes that could improve the service rather than having to ring a customer service number or go online and search for that detail.”
He added: “The coverage maps show a lot of the constituency without superfast connections. A lot of it is farmland but there is no escaping that there are still many communities waiting for their connection.”
“Many of the areas highlighted have been upgraded since Ofcom produced their report or are scheduled for upgrade this year. Nonetheless, I will continue working with the Connecting Devon and Somerset Programme to make sure they stick to the commitment of reaching up and, if it finds a problem, will provide some troubleshooting tips to hesuperfast broadband in 95% of premises.”
The app tests the Wi-Fi set-up improve broadband. It is free to download from Apple’s App Store and Google Play.
