A Burnham-On-Sea volunteer who has retired as Chairman of the town’s Friends of Apex Park group following more than a decade in the role has been formally thanked this week.
A celebratory buffet was held on Tuesday (11th June) to thank Joyce Beard, who has been Chairman of the Friends of Apex Park Improvements Group for 12 years.
Joyce was joined at The Princess Theatre by past and present members of the group plus Sedgemoor Chairman Cllr Peter Downing, council officers and Denise Timmins from the Volunteer Centre for Mendip and Sedgemoor.
After 12 committed years, Joyce stepped down as Chairman of the Friends of Apex Park Improvements Group at the recent AGM. Derek Chivers was voted Vice-Chairman until the Chairman’s role is filled.
Joyce was presented with a certificate of appreciation for her outstanding contribution to volunteering.
Sedgemoor’s Parks and Open Spaces Project Officer, Marina Turner, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I would like to thank everyone for attending the event which showed how much Joyce is appreciated.”
“Her efforts and hard work over the years hasn’t gone unnoticed and she deserves to be congratulated for not only the Friends’ group evolving but for keeping the group sustainable ever since.”
“It is this which has helped the park to become successful in gaining grant funding in the past, allowing events to be organised for the community which has all contributed towards achieving the Green Flag Award over several years.”
New members are welcome at the group. To become a Friend of Apex Park Improvements Group, email Marina.Turner@Sedgemoor.gov.uk or call 01278 435 512.
