New Burnham-On-Sea based group campaigns for European exit

-

A new campaign group has been launched in Burnham-On-Sea this week by a former parliamentary candidate to encourage local people to vote against staying in the European Union.

The newly-formed ‘Sedgemoor Leave.EU’ has been started by Helen Hims, pictured, who stood as UKIP’s local candidate in last year’s General Election.

She told Burnham-On-Sea.com this week: “Sedgemoor Leave.EU is a non-political group which sets out to provide facts and information about the impact of our continued EU membership.”

“In a few months – certainly before the end of next year – you will be asked to choose whether or not to stay in the European Union.”

“I won’t pretend to be remotely ‘on the fence’; I’ve always been quite certain we should leave this tired, failing and expensive club, and take our place in the modern world.”

“Many of us made up our minds a long time ago. Some don’t particularly care one way or another, but a very large number still have questions to ask before they make up their mind how to vote in this most important of elections.”

She added: “In the run-up to the referendum you will hear many passionate arguments for and against: there are currently many ‘Remain’ and ‘Leave’ campaign groups around, but closer to the referendum these groups will merge into single official groups.

The new group’s first informal event will be held on Friday 29th January at 7pm at The Fox & Goose Inn in Brent Knoll when South West MEP Dr Julia Reid will be speaking and answering questions.

Burnham-On-Sea.com will be featuring all groups and sides of the European debate locally in the run-up to the vote
