£10,000 boost announced for Burnham-On-Sea’s BASC sports ground

-

Bosses at a Burnham-On-Sea sports ground are celebrating this week after a £10,000 windfall was announced.

The Burnham Association of Sports Clubs (BASC) has secured funding from Viridor Credits Environmental Company through its Landfill Communities Fund for new grass cutting equipment.

Peter Gaylard, the BASC Treasurer, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We were in desperate need of equipment to help cut the 32 acres of grass at the BASC sports ground.”

“In particular, the cricket outfield requires a shorter length of grass than the rugby pitches.”

“The new equipment gives us the flexibility to produce better playing surfaces for all the various sports played at BASC.”

Brean Leisure Park has also agreed to be third party funders and have contributed 10% to unlock the funding from Viridor Credits.

Peter added: “We would like to thank Viridor Credits for believing in our project and also Richard and Alan House at Brean Leisure for their generous support.”

“We would also like to thank Andy Goodall of A&D 4×4 Ltd at Shute Shelf who have kindly donated a second-hand Land Rover Discovery which will be used as the tow vehicle on site.”

“We hope to take delivery of the new equipment before the end of June. BASC are working hard to develop the Stoddens Road sports ground and believe it is a valuable asset to our community in providing sporting facilities for young and old.”

Viridor Credits Environmental Company distributes funding through its Landfill Communities Fund. Funding is available for community and environmental projects within 10 miles of an active Viridor landfill site. Viridor Credits has allocated over £80million to almost 5,000 projects across the UK.
