Local politicians take part in Question Time debate in Highbridge

-

Local representatives from the UK’s five political parties took part in a Question Time style debate in Highbridge on Friday (June 21st).

King Alfred School’s Sixth Form Committee hosted the annual event where they quizzed the politicians, pictured above, on a number of hot topics.

The five panellists were MP Tessa Munt (Liberal Democrat), James Heappey (Conservative parliamentary candidate), William Dartmouth MEP (UKIP), Andy Merryfield (Chair of Wells Constituency Labour Party) and Alex Lawrie (Green Party).

The event was chaired by Hattie Hansen from the school’s Year 13 and the questions were delivered by sixth form students.

“The questions covered a variety of topics including Britain’s place in the European Union, foreign policy and the crisis in Syria, Michael Gove’s controversial education policies, youth unemployment, and same-sex marriage,” the school’s Simon Aylward told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“The sixth form students were very grateful to the panellists for giving up their time to come and air their views.”

The often-heated exchanges ended with a civilised buffet in the sixth form centre.
