A group of church bellringers in Burnham-On-Sea are set to remember a fellow bellringer with a poignant tribute this Friday.
Glyn Luxon, 87, passed away suddenly at his home on 19th December. He was the last of three generations of Luxons to live in Burnham.
His grandfather was one of the local lifeboat crew and Glyn and his father ran Luxon’s Bakery shop in Burnham’s High Street.
Glyn joined The Bath & Wells Diocesan Society of Change Ringers in 1954 as a member at West Huntspill.
He rang regularly at St Andrew’s and also at other churches such as Taunton, Axbridge and Dunster and often went to towers to help out with training of new and improving bell ringers.
He was a prolific bell ringer until he suffered a stroke a few years ago. Following his funeral service at Sedgemoor Crematorium at 10.45am this Friday, from about 11.45am the bells at St Andrew’s Church in Burnham will ring a Quarter Peal of a method called Grandsire Triples.
The tribute will last around 50 minutes, and will be a fitting tribute by the eight experienced ringers, all of whom knew and rang with Glyn for many years.
