A new volunteer group has met for the first time this week after formally launching in Burnham-On-Sea to help needy people across the area.
Members of ‘Hands of Change Burnham And Surrounding Area’ hope to help scores of people during 2016 and held their first gathering on Monday evening (January 25th) at Burnham’s Lighthouse Inn.
The group’s Kay Marie Barrett, pictured with fellow members, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The meeting went very well with a few people interested in ongoing projects and also starting some of their own.”
“We gave four homeless help bags away to be passed on to the homeless. The food had been passed on to us from one of our volunteers.”
The group of volunteers aim to make a change in the local community and the local Somerset area.
“We hope people will jump onboard with this, so that people out there who need help will have somewhere local to turn,” she added.
Kay added: “We will have meetings once a month to share ideas of where we can help, and also to hold fundraisers for good causes.”
“People can get involved in different projects and do as much or as little as they like. People can get involved by finding us on Facebook.”
