Angry residents living near Burnham-On-Sea’s road-to-nowhere, the Frank Foley Parkway, are giving up hope of the road ever being completed after new lines directing motorists off the road were introduced this week.
Somerset County Highways workmen added the new lines, pictured here, on Wednesday as part of a new traffic calming scheme to safely direct drivers around the obstacle, but some local residents are unhappy.
One resident, writing in Burnham-On-Sea.com’s discussion forum, said: “I’m hopping mad. The Highways people have been painting the white lines at the end of the Frank Foley Parkway, but they haven’t been repainting the existing junction white lines. They’ve been burning them off the road and applying new ones. The white lines are now the type you see on a tight bend. A signal from the council that the road will never be completed?”
A County Highways spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com on Friday (June 23rd): “These lines are permanent until further private development takes place.”
“They have been introduced due to issues with motorists incorrectly using the junction.”
