Motorist rushed to hospital after two-vehicle crash near Burnham

A female motorist was rushed to hospital after being cut free from her car near Burnham-On-Sea last night (Wednesday).

Police, ambulance and fire crews from Burnham and Glastonbury were called to the junction of Buttlake Road and Southwick Road near the Mark Causeway at 8.50pm.

A spokesman said: “On arrival, the officer in charge confirmed this was a two vehicle road traffic incident. One car was in a water-filled ditch with no people trapped, while the second vehicle was on a verge with a casualty still inside.”

“Crews stabilised the vehicle, a Honda, and made initial access to the trapped casualty and liaised with paramedics on scene.”

“Fire crews removed the roof of the vehicle with hydraulic cutting equipment and assisted paramedics with getting the casualty to the ambulance.”

By 10.15pm, the fire officer in charge confirmed the casualty had been released from the vehicle by fire service personnel.

The woman was handed the ambulance crew who rushed her to Musgrove Hospital in Taunton.
