Burnham-On-Sea’s Co-Op bank branch to close down in May

-

The Co-Operative Bank has announced it is closing its Burnham-On-Sea branch in May.

In a letter to customers, the bank has this week confirmed that it is shutting its College Street branch on May 5th.

“This decision has not been taken lightly, but is necessary as part of our business plans and we apologise for any inconvenience caused,” says a spokesman.

“We regret to announce that this branch will close permanently at 1.30pm on Thursday May 5th.”

The closure comes as banks scale back their branch numbers across the UK as customers turn increasingly to online banking instead.

Nat West closed its branch in nearby Highbridge in 2014, as we reported here.

The closure will lead to another vacant premises becoming available in the town centre, although the number of empty shops in Burnham remains very low.
