Burnham-On-Sea’s Hillview Carnival Club had a double dose of good news on Monday (November 8th) after winning second place at their home town’s carnival and learning their placing at Bridgwater Carnival had changed from third to second.
The club, whose decorated tractor unit had a flat tyre and had to be replaced by an unadorned vehicle for Bridgwater’s parade, was accidentally overlooked by two judges and so placed third in the juvenile category.
But when the mistake was realised on Monday the placings, which are based on average scores, were changed.
Toppers carnival club from North Petherton slipped from second to third place while Hillview went up to the runner-up spot.
Mark Bishop, Hillview’s cart captain, told Burnham-On-Sea.com he was “delighted” at the news, which came just hours before the theatrical float, called The Show, went on to do well at Monday’s Burnham carnival.
The huge cart has cost £12,000 to build and is decorated with over 10,000 lights, half of which are environmentally-friendly.
