Tourism boosted on Burnham-On-Sea’s hottest day of the year

-

Sun lovers flocked to the Burnham-On-Sea area over the weekend as the area enjoyed its hottest day of the year so far.

Temperatures of 29.0C (84.2F) were recorded on Sunday in Brent Knoll, easily beating the previous record of 23.1C set on June 6th.

Beaches and tourism businesses benefited from the heatwave, with visitors queuing for traditional beach donkey rides and ice creams, as pictured.

The Pavilion enjoyed a bumper day of ice cream sales, with manager Louise Parkin telling Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It’s been a good weekend – the weather has helped sales. Let’s hope it continues like this for some time to come.”

Local holiday parks were also busy too, with Warren Farm at Brean saying it was fully booked.

And Steve Atkinson from Home Farm Holiday Park in Burnham said: “We’ve had two very busy weekends and our forward bookings are looking very positive too – the weather is definitely helping us.”

Ian Jefferies, manager at Burnham’s tourist information centre, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It’s been a really good start to the summer season with positive feedback from local tourism businesses. We just hope the good weather and the momentum continues over the summer as a whole.”
