A group of singers from Burnham and Highbridge Choral Society travelled to London on Sunday (7th July) to take part in an unforgettable performance at The Royal Albert Hall.
The group, pictured, sang with Britain’s largest choral society, The Really Big Chorus, where they performed Verdi’s Requiem.
“It was a very exciting day. The ladies were positioned high up in the east and west Choir stalls which are to each side of the organ,” said the society’s Julie Skinner.
“It was very hot up there and scarily steep. While not saying that crampons were actually needed to get up there and Sherpas to carry the scores it was quite a climb. The gents fared better a little lower down.”
“Brian Kay was conducting and, as usual, it was a superb day. Lunch on the grass by the Albert Memorial under the trees provided shade from the hot sunshine.”
“Later, after a short walk around Hyde Park some very good places were found to eat before the evening performance. There were close to 2,000 singers for this performance. The English Festival Orchestra were in support and the soloists were superb.”
The Bunham singers were joined on the trip by some of the Weston-super-Mare Choral Society.
