A teenage fundraiser from Burnham-On-Sea has raised more than £3,000 for a local charity by walking 80km of The Great Wall of China.
Kieran Bird, 18, has just returned home after completing his amazing trek along the landmark in aid of St Margaret’s Hospice.
“I’ve always wanted to do something for charity as a teenager to help a worthy cause and to prove that not all youths are trouble makers,” he told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“The whole experience was one that I will never forget, and I encourage anyone who wants to experience meeting new people and cultures while challenging themselves to do it.”
“A group of 60 walkers took part, with me as the youngest right up to several people in their 70s, walking over 50 miles of the Great Wall.”
“We travelled 24 hours to get there and a further 26 hours to get home, which were challenges in themselves.”
He added: “All together, I managed to raise £3,000.53 for the charity, and the whole event made over £105,000 profit in total for the charity. A huge thank you goes to everyone for their support.”
Kieran is already planning his next fundraising challenge – cycling from John O’ Goats to Lands End with a friend next year.
