Wind farm protesters near Burnham meet to draw up appeal plans

-

Campaigners against a controversial wind farm near Burnham-On-Sea are holding another public meeting today (Wednesday) as they gear up to fight the developer’s appeal application.

Broadview Energy wants to build four 130-metre tall wind turbines – each as tall as Brent Knoll – on land at Pilrow Farm, south of Rooksbridge.

Sedgemoor District Council rejected the scheme in April, but Broadview later submitted a formal appeal to the Planning Inspectorate in a bid to overturn the decision.

Two public meetings have been arranged this week by campaign group NoPilrow in conjunction with the Parish Council.

The first was held last night, as pictured, at The Wellington Arms in Rooksbridge and another will be held tonight at East Brent Village Hall (on Wednesday 10th July) from 6pm.

The appeal is not due to go ahead until January 2014.

David Maund from the group said: “We would urge as many residents to attend as can make it. At each meeting individual members of both the Parish Council and the NoPilrow Committee will be providing information and answering any queries residents may have.”

“As well as all the information we have about Broadview’s original Planning Application we will have copies of the Appeal documents, timings where known and suggested draft letters for those who may wish to write an objection.”

“We would like to discuss the practicalities with anyone who may wish to speak at the appeal hearing and also for those who may want their property included in a list to be visited by the Inspector.”

“The vast majority of residents are against Broadview’s plans to erect four Massive wind turbines near our homes – some as little as 600m from dwellings. Our Parish Council and most adjacent councils have refused their application, Sedgemoor District Council and the District Planners have refused their Application and SCC Landscape Officers, English Heritage, National Trust, RSPB and others oppose the application.”
