Organisers of Burnham and Highbridge’s Youth Weekend say the event will return in 2014 after a successful first year.
A day of dancing displays on Sunday followed a parade on Saturday involving more than 200 youngsters, as we featured here.
Youth groups from Burnham, Highbridge and Berrow took part in the weekend, including the Lucy Gunter Dance Centre, the BEES drama group, Burnham and Highbridge Karate Club, Burnham Swimming Club, Highbridge Brownies and Berrow Guides.
Dance demonstrations were performed on the seafront by the Lucy Gunter group on both days – although Sunday’s dancing was moved onto the seafront lawns due to the extreme heat on the black stage surface outside the Bay View cafe making it too hot for the dancers’ feet.
Jonathan Smith, one of the organisers of the Youth Weekend, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It’s been a great weekend – it was good to see so many of the town’s youngsters coming together in such a positive way to demonstrate their skills.”
“We’ve had lots of good feedback and we intend to hold another event next year at the same time.”
There were also a dozen stalls and games set up along the seafront. The event was supported by Burnham Lions, Sunspot Amusements, BIARS, BARB and Burnham Town Team.
