Brent Knoll Guides helped to stay afloat with Burnham Rotary donation

-

Burnham-On-Sea Rotary Club’s outgoing president has put Brent Knoll Guides in a buoyant mood by handing over a donation this week.

Hugh Mackay, the outgoing president of Burnham Rotary Club, caught up with the guides while they were kayaking on the River Axe.

He presented them with a donation from the Rotary Club – one of more than 30 individuals, organisations and charities that the club have supported this year.

Jane Sinnott of Brent Knoll Guides said: “We were delighted to receive the donation and we will be putting it towards our camp funds. We thank the Rotary Club for their support.

“The guides enjoyed their night on the river – the girls invited Hugh to join them in a kayak, but he declined the offered and opted to stay on dry land!”

Mike Merrett of CountryWide Weekends, which provides instructors for the kayaking, added: “Brent Knoll Guides always enjoy their outdoor activities, we have taken them raft building, climbing and abseiling, but I think kayaking is probably their favourite. It’s a great activity and it gives them the opportunity to learn teamwork, water confidence and balance.”
