The Conservative Candidates who will contest next year’s district council elections in the new Brent Knoll ward, covering Brent Knoll, part of Burnham Without, East Brent, East Huntspill and Lympsham, have this week been selected.
Current District Councillors Bob Filmer and Andrew Gilling were both elected unanimously during a selection meeting held at East Brent Village Hall.
Cllr Bob Filmer, pictured right, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I am very pleased to be selected to contest the new ward and if elected I will endeavour to continue to represent the electors of the new larger ward with the same commitment as I have my old ward.”
He added that he was “very disappointed” that he would no longer be able to serve the residents on the Rosewood Farm and former radio station developments, which had been transferred out of his ward by the boundary commission despite being opposed by himself, local councillors of all parties and the local parish councils.
Cllr Gilling, right, added: “I am delighted to have been selected to stand alongside my colleague and good friend Cllr Bob Filmer for the Conservative party, in the recently reorganised Knoll ward that has subsumed the Brent North ward.”
“Issues with which we have both been involved in the past have included the successful resolution of the problems of the shortly to be completed ‘Rosewood Green’ in Burnham Without and the long running saga of the unauthorised Gipsy incursion on Mendip Road, Rooksbridge; two projects that provided major challenges but both, we believe have now been successfully resolved.”
The meeting was chaired by Carol Davies (Chairman of the Wells Conservative Association) and was also attended by Vera Milverton (Chairman of Bridgwater Conservative Association) since the new ward straddles the boundary between the two parliamentary constituencies.
